When
oxoniensis started gathering prompts for Porn Battle V I somehow got the impression that she was getting more than swamped, so I offered to help her out. After all, I'm unemployed with free time, insane, used to sorting prompts thanks to
brain_asplode and, oh yes, insane.
I sorted all the crossovers, the RPF and the "Bandom" stuff. (And, yes, there are still mistakes in those areas, and I feel stupid everytime I see them. Bah.)
Now I must rant about "Bandom" -- my apologies if you are part of this, but for the most part, I would like these people to go out and chew ground glass. About halfway through,
oxoniensis added to the prompts post reminding people that if their prompts weren't properly formatted they'd be tossed, and the Bandom people *still* put up stuff that was sometimes so malformed there was NO WAY of guessing what they were asking for. I must have thrown out at least a dozen prompts (mostly, but not all, from one person who Just Couldn't Get It), and it made me sad.
Outside of the stuff that was just unintelligble, there was the fun of trying to sort and remove and/or gather duplicates. I spent a good 2-3 hours with Wikipedia trying to figure things out, because often giving last names helped to sort out duplicates, especially in the Bandom Crossovers (insert major groan here). But when you see
Bandom, Band-name, Joe/Bob, whatever
and Wikipedia says there is NOBODY NAMED BOB in that band...
or even more fun
Bandom, Band-name, Joe/Joseph, whatever
and Wikipedia helpfully points out that there used to be a Joe in the band, who left a year ago, but that there are currently now *two* Josephs in the band...
Yes, you write Bandom? Here's your ground glass.
Anyway, as a thank you,
oxoniensis sent me a gold star, which is in my profile, for the next 2 weeks the mail said :). Whee! I am so amused. Nobody's given me a gold star since I was in 5th grade, and that was... 35 years ago? Something like that ;).
And I actually wrote, too! I wrote
Pineapple (Ocean's 11, Danny/Rusty, oral fixation, pineapple), which is the second time I've written a prompt for Rusty from Ocean's 11 and oral fixation.
And then I wrote Just Desserts (Crossover: Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG-1, Rodney McKay/Cameron Mitchell, "revenge/dessert"), which is kind of a tag to the SG-1 S10 episode "The Pegasus Project", and which is still making me giggle. I make myself laugh too much.
I might write more. But for now - speaking of
brain_asplode time to put the new pairings list up there! Laterz!
p.s. Go read the porn battle stories if you haven't. If you want to add a story, she's had to start a 2nd page 'cause everyone's writing! Be a joiner! And write something for
brain_asplode too :-P.
update: and I also wrote Little Surprise (Crossover, Babylon 5/Stargate SG-1, Susan Ivanova/Ba'al, BOOM). Hee.

The first round of pairings -- 174 of 'em -- are up on
brain_asplode.
There are some I'm dying to write, bet you will too.
Anyone can write, whether they submitted characters. No claims, multiple people can write the same pairings. There's a link to the rules on the pairings list. No deadlines.
GO forth, write fics or drabbles or make art, and pimp, pimp, pimp.

First Call For Characters up on

Go forth and offer, and pimp, and such. Go go go!

*sigh*
Somewhere along the line, LJ has added some restrictions on the character and size limits of certain things. Like, LJ comm/user names, and how many words an interest can be.
(In their defense, having seen them have to pull whole communities off line because something broke the DB [and, having seen a technical discussion about how LJ goes together], I can't blame them.)
It turns out that "BrainBleachPairings" is 4 characters longer than the 15 allowed. *sigh*. I didn't know, I'm sorry.
So, when in doubt, go with the Ozzie (sorta :-P).
brain_asplode LIVES, and it's dubbed "Pairings That Require Brain Bleach."
Now, I don't know that anyone has been going back in time & keeping up with my edits on how to "run" the comm/challenges, but if you haven't, please take a look and offer up more opinions/ideas (either here or there, don't care).
One thing I haven't listed in either place is this thought: Are "real people" allowed, or just fictional characters? Now, I know some of you think that RPF is the spawn of Satan, but, hell, I feel the same way about Harry Potter, and I'm not going to disallow HP fic just because of my opinion.
But does it *fit*? I'm not sure -- I've read some absolutely hysterical RP/fictional stuff (like the one where Kermit the Frog goes wandering around Vancouver and half the BSG and Stargate casts start gushing all over him - no smut involved, just cracktastically good stuff, amongst others.
I'm also a bit worried about some of the fandom areas I know near nothing about, like the Animes.
The script for pairings should be done soon. Basically it'll go through a list of pairings that look like:
Joe Blow - From Idaho
and pair them up so that no word in the *second part* matches. If it gets to the end of the list and can't match things up, it throws things out and starts again. If it cannot match everything fully in 5 times, it gives up, and we (the script coder & I) start trying to figure out what's going wrong.
(the script coder, to the best of my knowledge, is not in fandom at all, and is going to mock me mercilessly when she finds out what this is for. But that's a whole other ball of asplosion.)
I'd like to nail down the "how to submit pairings" "how to submit fic" thing sometime tomorrow, then I can post a "start submitting pairings" and I can start getting people to pimp, pimp, pimp the comm.
Thanks to all who have commented, offered opinions, taken the poll, etc, and those who will do so :-). I couldn't do this without your support.
(OK now I feel like a PBS beg-a-thon break :-P)
