From [info]synecdochic's Inaugural Dreamwidth Comment Porn Meme, Peanuts, for the prompt: Ocean's 11, Rusty/Linus, peanuts. [Also not very porny, but more R-rated.]

Judge's comment: Infinimato hits the nail of comedy on the head with this one. And her characterization of Hammer felt dead on.

Not too shabby for something written off the cuff, in a moment of sheer insanity, and in a fandom I've never written in ever again. (yet?)

I'm still in awe how much Original Series music kept creeping in.

Also, episode 18? "Numian's 3rd Sonata" or whatever? Is from the original series. It's the music they'd play whenever the Cylons would appear. Very grand, very operatic. Made me burst out laughing the second I realized what it was.

I still haven't seen (finished downloading) last week's BSG. I dunno how long it will be until I can get my hands on tonight's.

I give until Tuesday (assuming I haven't seen it by then) before some asshole "accidentally" spoils it.

Also in my to-download queueueueue: L&O:UK. (And Dollhouse. WAY behind on Dollhouse.)

Lastly: Netflix++ for three more NCIS Season 1 disks. 2 more and I'm done with S1. Then... S2! :-)

Postive Actors I Can Admire

  • Mar. 18th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
so say we all (peanuts)
I've said it before and I'm sure to say it again -- generally I do not like actors. They tend to be self-serving in ways that call attention to themselves that should shame anyone. Everytime I read about an actor who tells fans details of their personal life that should be kept under lock and key, or says the most skeevy things, I want to smack heads. [Don't get me started on the fans who encourage this behaviour and/or are worse. That's a whole other ball of crap.]

Anyway. I understand that actors need to walk around with giant arrows pointing at them going, "LOOK AT ME! SEE? I WILL BRING YOUR movie/tv show/reality series/magazine article/brothel/etc
PILES OF MONEY" because that's what gets them noticed, and then cast. But I don't have to like it.

Every once in a while, however, an actor will do things that make me step back and go, "OK, you're using your Evil Acting Power for GOOD!"

In that vein -- Edward James Olmos may have a share of my soul. Mary McDonnell and Whoopi Goldberg can also have a slice.

Because, DAMN, people! Chanting, "So Say We All" WITH people at the U.N.?!

As if I don't have 1001 unfinished fics ...

Someone, somewhere (maybe even one of you) posted a "which of these fictional people would you have sex with" meme and when SGA's Lorne was mentioned, they sort of did a "mine! mine! mine!" -- to which i can completely relate.

But that got me thinking --- Everyone thinks he's such a good little soldier. In canon he screws up now and again, but he's generally considered the reliable 2nd. In fanon he's Sheppard's go-to boy, always mopping up after him, whether it's a mission gone wrong or, well, whatever.

So I started thinking... What if he's got this really nasty streak that rarely pops out? But when it does, hoo boy, watch out.

I started pondering the "Gets drunk, acts like asshole" thing, but that's so typical and cliche (and, hey, that's most of the people I've dated (-: ). I'm now trying to figure out what his Nasty Streak is and where it can crop up and make people just go, "Whoa. Didn't see THAT coming."

Just a note that the voting for the Horrible Awards closes on March 20th.

My Horrible fic, Hammer Time, is just one of many nominees. While I cannot and would not tell you who to vote for, I will say that there's some awesome stuff there and you should check it out, if you're a fan of the Dr. Horrible Sing-along Blog at all.

Not that I think I have a remote chance of winning in ANY category; I'm pretty well convinced at this point that these things are popularity contests. Go ahead, universe, Prove Me Wrong, I dare you.

- I'm not job hunting as hard as I should be. [I've been unemployed since the end of January.]

- I'm not keeping up with LJ well enough. I am a sucky LJ friend.

- I'm not writing much either. There's a couple of something-fests I really want to write for, including [info]lgbtfest and, especially, the [info]team_sga AU 2009 fest (in which I put a few whacked out prompts, of which at least one has been grabbed, of which one I may just have to do myself anyway, maybe, and where there are some other awesome prompts that just yell, "Write me! Write me!") but I just don't seem to be able to get the ideas out from the head through the fingers.

I need to get back into the programs. All of them. I need to work on [info]brain_asplode, too.

Think I'll go do that now.

PORN BATTLE!

porn? (firefly)
It's Porn Battle time again! Prompts are being collected until 6pm GMT tomorrow (Saturday), then the pornage begins!

There are already 16 comment-filled pages full of prompts, ranging from The Usual Boring Pairings to some rare pairings and rare-er fandoms.

Things that are cracking me up so far, looking at the prompts --

A *disturbing* number of RPF for US politics, especially centered around the Obamas and the Bidens.

A bunch of "anthropomorphic" prompts. One person put "Dr. Pepper" in a prompt like this. All I could think was, "Hi, I'm bubbly and taste nasty!"

The people who post ONE pairing in ONE fandom, and it's a cliche pairing for said fandom, and then about 50 word-prompts for said pairing. (Because, you know, there's just such so tough finding porn for SGA john/rodney or SPN Wincest. But I'm not bitter. :-P)

Of all the prompts I put up, I really want to see this: "Doctor Who, Donna/Nine, tolerate". I may have to do it myself, as I have this burning urge to hear Nine yelling at Donna, "HOW THE #%*()_ DOES HE PUT UP WITH YOU?!?!"

"I'm not so sure we should be trusting them. We have no way to corroborate their story."

"You don't trust anyone," Kira reminded him, a smile hiding in her eyes. "Captain Sisko feels they're being honest. And, really, do you think that rustbucket of a ship could do us any damage?"

Odo grunted. "You're probably right. Unless it explodes and takes out the upper pylon docking bays."

"Always so full of cheer and good humour." She couldn't help reaching out and giving his hand a squeeze. Maybe I should go see how they're getting along with their repairs. Chief O'Brien seems to be torn between wanting to overhaul their engine and trying to figure out how to replicate the weird parts their engineer keeps insisting she needs."

"All right. By the way, Nerys, are we still on for dinner later?"

The smile she gave him lit up the room. "I wouldn't miss it."

On her way to the pylon where the strangers had docked their ship, she stopped to get a raktajino, thinking she would need the jolt to deal with this mess. She spotted Julian in deep conversation with the doctor from the new ship. Weird one, him. He was as cultured as their own doctor, at least, but was living in the rough among even rougher people.

She wasn't as trusting as Captain Sisko, but neither was she as untrusting as Odo. She thought she had a good feel for people, and the new ship's Captain had her going both ways. On the one hand, she'd been in Sisko's office when the two Captains were talking, as was his second in command, a woman at least as tough as herself. It was very clear they really were from somewhere, if not somewhen else. The new folk had been unaware of the Dominion war, but had made it clear that they were veterans of another war. They had summed it up as having been underdogs that had lost. Officially. Something about that made her grin. She knew all about being the
underdog.

On the other hand, they were clearly hiding something, and that thought made her nervous.

[this one I'd really like to flesh out more someday. I'll just put that in my mile-long todo file ... :)]

Someone I know in the so-called "real-world" worked for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the people allegedly making Stargate Worlds, the Stargate MMORPG. The notice came out today that the company is shutting it's doors in 2 weeks.

S/He'd been circumspect for some time about who s/he worked for, but over the past few months it was clear from the comments that the company was falling apart. Commonly heard from this person was: "I didn't get paid again" or "I got $NN, that's 1/3 of what they owed me just for this week, forget about the stuff they owe me from X previous weeks."

So if you had your hopes up for Stargate Worlds, forget it. It's toast.

One of my stories [the really kinky one (well, really kinky for me)], has been nominated for an SGA Kink Award.

I'm kinda embarrassed to say this, but -- I didn't nominate myself here :-). I dunno who nominated me, but wow. Just having someone else nominate something I wrote is awesome.

Of course I cannot (and would not!) tell you go to vote for me. I would tell you that if you have any kinky leanings at all, you should go read the stories there. Some of my favorites are there. Note that there's a guide to what the categories mean, and any seriously hard stuff (like blood, etc.) are notably warned about.

Voting runs through 4/25. Vote early, vote often :-P.

p.s. ION I am way totally behind on reading LJ again, but things should settle back down soon. I'm moved, I'm trying to get up to speed in the new job, I'm just a giant stressball! WHEE. Ok, so I have read non-con, and sometimes I have enjoyed the story, as dark as non-con can be. Sometimes the story that contains the non-con, whether outright rape or just suggestions of something awful, can be so good and powerful that it's worth the mental heebee jeebies of the non-con.

I just read a slash non-con story where one character forcibly gives a handjob to another. The victim reacts - as rape victims bodies often do - despite his loathing of the situation.

Someone commented that they didn't like non-con but because they were a friend of the writer, they'd read it anyway. The writer replied, "It's not painful - it's actually pleasurable for [xx], he just doesn't want it."

W. T. F.

I could set up all sorts of strawman arguments here (ex., "I suppose that if abc happens to xyz, it's ok!"), but I think it just speaks for itself.

I gots a gold star for helping with porn!

porn? (firefly)
When [info]oxoniensis started gathering prompts for Porn Battle V I somehow got the impression that she was getting more than swamped, so I offered to help her out. After all, I'm unemployed with free time, insane, used to sorting prompts thanks to [info]brain_asplode and, oh yes, insane.

I sorted all the crossovers, the RPF and the "Bandom" stuff. (And, yes, there are still mistakes in those areas, and I feel stupid everytime I see them. Bah.)

Now I must rant about "Bandom" -- my apologies if you are part of this, but for the most part, I would like these people to go out and chew ground glass. About halfway through, [info]oxoniensis added to the prompts post reminding people that if their prompts weren't properly formatted they'd be tossed, and the Bandom people *still* put up stuff that was sometimes so malformed there was NO WAY of guessing what they were asking for. I must have thrown out at least a dozen prompts (mostly, but not all, from one person who Just Couldn't Get It), and it made me sad.

Outside of the stuff that was just unintelligble, there was the fun of trying to sort and remove and/or gather duplicates. I spent a good 2-3 hours with Wikipedia trying to figure things out, because often giving last names helped to sort out duplicates, especially in the Bandom Crossovers (insert major groan here). But when you see
Bandom, Band-name, Joe/Bob, whatever
and Wikipedia says there is NOBODY NAMED BOB in that band...
or even more fun
Bandom, Band-name, Joe/Joseph, whatever
and Wikipedia helpfully points out that there used to be a Joe in the band, who left a year ago, but that there are currently now *two* Josephs in the band...

Yes, you write Bandom? Here's your ground glass.

Anyway, as a thank you, [info]oxoniensis sent me a gold star, which is in my profile, for the next 2 weeks the mail said :). Whee! I am so amused. Nobody's given me a gold star since I was in 5th grade, and that was... 35 years ago? Something like that ;).

And I actually wrote, too! I wrote
Pineapple (Ocean's 11, Danny/Rusty, oral fixation, pineapple), which is the second time I've written a prompt for Rusty from Ocean's 11 and oral fixation.

And then I wrote Just Desserts (Crossover: Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG-1, Rodney McKay/Cameron Mitchell, "revenge/dessert"), which is kind of a tag to the SG-1 S10 episode "The Pegasus Project", and which is still making me giggle. I make myself laugh too much.

I might write more. But for now - speaking of [info]brain_asplode time to put the new pairings list up there! Laterz!

p.s. Go read the porn battle stories if you haven't. If you want to add a story, she's had to start a 2nd page 'cause everyone's writing! Be a joiner! And write something for [info]brain_asplode too :-P.

update: and I also wrote Little Surprise (Crossover, Babylon 5/Stargate SG-1, Susan Ivanova/Ba'al, BOOM). Hee.

I'm trying to pull myself back into the world. That includes this part of the world :).

I've watched all the SGA episodes aired so far, and BSG Razor, and am easily resisting the urge to download the (of course) illegal screeners of the 1st SG1 movie. (Were it Continuum I'd probably not be so easily resisting. *sigh*).

I've got mountains of fics to sift through and read, I'm sure. Anyone wanna throw some recs at me, from the end of August to now?

For the moment I'm playing with [info]brain_asplode and slowly worming my brain back into things. Maybe I'll be able to finish off the fics I started months ago {at least one was for a challenge or somesuch, which really sucks of me} and maybe get my brain going enough to start writing new stuff as well.

Maybe.

I've been fired before, so I should know the drill. But you know, after so long being told you're garbage, you start to believe it.

I started writing a year ago as stress relief. The stress is now so high I can't even write. I have only one fic-a-thon writing due, plus two "dvd commentaries". Hopefully I'll be able to hit the deadlines. I'm so glad I didn't sign up for more.

Voting is going on over at [info]sgdiverse_award, the award for rare slash & femslash (& 3somes & moresomes etc. etc. etc) stories.

I can't tell you who to vote for, but I can point out that some of my more favorite authors are nominated for stuffs - sometimes 'cause I nominated 'em :-P.

Each vote poll page has a link back to the list of stories that are listed; that secondary page has links to each story.

Actually, I'm finding my del.icio.us bookmarks are really helping here; I can click on a pairing and have a list of stories I've bookmarked show up, at least with a genre if not a summary and/or quote.

Anyway, I encourage you to at the very least vote for stories of your favorite pairing(s) and/or groupings.

All of the male/male vote polls are listed here, and master lists for f/f and multis will be up as soon as the relevaant polls are all posted.

There's a new set of pairings up on [info]brain_asplode. I didn't do a good job of pimping the call for characters, so there's only ~90 pairings. The interesting side is thatthere's a very diverse selection of characters. Most fandoms submitted, with the exception of Hairy Pooter, only have one or two characters entered.

Go take a look & see if anything strikes your fancy. & Tell your friends! :-)

On that note, I'm having real problems writing lately. I'm not sure what's wrong, but nothing seems to flow out of me. It's kinda depressing.

I should be working on my now-overdue sequel to "Guest" but two other fics are eating my brain.

- I've got a Lorne fic that's an AU mess from "Road Not Taken" but the two folks I've asked to help me with it haven't yet seen the damned episode! Anyone interested in giving me a hand? I need some real "bang my head against the wall" help here, some things just aren't working right, yet I know they should.

- When that's not eating my brain, the 3rd x-over with "The Stand" is. It's coming along slowly but nicely. It helps that I've known the major plot points from the start, and they haven't much changed.

Dear LJ friends who offer me up to join Twitter,

I am sorry that I cannot join you.

As I've mentioned before, I'm pretty rigid about keeping my RL and "fan" LJ's separate. Infinimato has it's own email address (which can't easily be tied to my RL self), and some other accounts (including YouTube, PhotoBucket and I forget what else). I don't have the energy to create another Twitter account. I have one for the "real me". (Keeping up with two sets of LJ friends? Hooo boy! Bad enough.)

It's nothing personal against YOU folks, it's just that I feel very strongly about keeping things separate for a variety of reasons, including that my current job & I are having... difficulties, to put it politely, and I'm trying to find a new job, and also do some consulting on the side.

It's not that I want to hide, per se, my fan side, but I also don't want to go screaming out to the universe.

Maybe some day my life will settle and I can "come out of the closet," (well, this closet :-P). For now, please understand that sometimes Infinimato just can't come play in all the raindeer games.

I OFFER UP SMOOCHES

(it might have been locked, and i've forgotten who posted it. Sorry.)

They were talking about actual episodes of shows, like, you know, the Star Trek TOS episode with the mime-chick who "heals" people's pain by taking it on herself? And let me tell you, I'd rather watch, "Spock's Brain" than that episode. Ever.

Anyway, geez. Apparently David Hewlett did some kind of rap, on video, to respond to someone who did one at him, or some such. I tried watching it, and I got about 15 seconds in and I was scrabbling for the "JANE! STOP THIS CRAZY THING!!!!" button. Because, sheesh.

Firefly, Mal & Wash, all work and no play
Firefly, Jayne/River, hiding in the shadows

Stargate Atlantis, Caldwell & Hermiod, bombs
Stargate Atlantis, Sheppard & Kavanagh, hair

Stargate SG-1, Vala & Siler, bandage

War of the Worlds (tv), Suzanne McCullough/Paul Ironhorse / Harrison Blackwood, dare

Crossover, Babylon 5 / Firefly, Susan Ivanova/Malcolm Reynolds, water

Crossover, Star Trek: DS9 / Stargate SG-1, Miles O'Brien & Sgt Siler, tools

Crossover, Stargate SG-1 / Stargate Atlantis, Ba'al / Lorne, snark

[& the winner of the "I will probably have to write it anyway":]
Crossover, Buckaroo Banzai / War of the Worlds (tv), Buckaroo Banzai & Harrison Blackwood, anger

because if you know BB & have seen the WotW series, it'd make sense

[So far (that I've seen) only one of my prompt has been used, [info]purple_cube wrote from SGA, Teyla/Lorne, cards.]

ba'al ominous
"It's begun: Superbug strain claims first life in Japan. All survivors are reminded to head to Boulder if they're good, or Las Vegas if they're evil."

I should really work on that 3rd fic....

And I am *dry* people....

wtf - roslin & zarek
Let's see.

- I have two more SGA/SG1/The Stand fic in the works. (one about Jack & Vala & someone from sga [i'm not telling who yet] making their way to Boulder, and one after that, which ties up all three fics plus, to be called "Power Vacuum."

- I should do at least one fic for [info]brain_asplode

- I have the followup to "Guest"

- I never finished the fic for sg-fortunecookie, dammit. (everything I wrote just didn't read right.)

And then:

I did put up 3 prompts for [info]slashfest. None were the silliness I suggested I might, though I was tempted. (Claims for taking prompts runs 4/6 through 4/10.)

This week there crops up:

- [info]medie's Kissing comment-fic-athon (although most of the prompts don't appeal to me -- cripes, most of the Lorne prompts are with WEIR. Ptui. (running through 4/6)

- Signups for the [info]apocalyptothon, which, you know. (signups by 4/16)

- [info]svmadelyn is doing another Kink & Cliche Challenge, which, YOU KNOW. (signups by 4/9)

- Also signups for the [info]auficathon (signups by 4/18)

PLUS
- the BSG Bondage Ficathon (Need to submit a fic by 4/4. Crossovers allowed as long as they fit the requirements.)

and Kellifer's Schmoopathon which, since all of my het requires extra doses of insulin anyway, I should consider playing with. (fics due by 4/30 but prompt must be claimed first.)

And I'm sure I'm forgetting things ... like the Old-Skool-BSG Meets New-BSG. And if [info]shusu mentions the Martins I will hunt her down and BITE her.

Now, how do I kick-start my brain in gear? I am totally dry here, folks!

ETA:
= I signed up for the Cliche & Kink Ficathon and was assigned "bondage" (can you say "sequel to 'Guest'?")
= I think I have an idea for the BSG kink fest (though can I write it in 2ish days?)
= It turns out the person running [info]apocalyptothon is the same one who used to run (and quietly abandoned) [info]ithurtsmybrain. This makes me a bit wary of participating.

naked pilot
[info]slashfest, for whom (which?) I have written two fics to few comments, is now in it's phase of accepting new requests. Any one person can submit up to three requests that then someone else might take and write.

I'm tempted, OH so sorely sorely tempted to suggest things like:

Stargate: Atlantis - McKay/Sheppard - John is the Worst! Lover! Ever! After he chases Rodney for weeks and finally gets him into bed, the sex is just horrible. John blames it all on Rodney, and then to make matters worse, promptly dumps him for the first bimbo (or himbo) that comes along. Please include as many bad-sex disasters (ie. flying condoms, insufficient lubrication, drooling kisses, hits into delicate areas, etc.) as you can without going completely overboard.

or

Stargate: Atlantis - Ronon/Radek - Ronon has a very, very small dick and is completely *horrified* by how huge all the Lantean men are. Radek, king of the giant penises, tries to teach Ronon that size doesn't matter, until it does.

While babbling with [info]triple7lies I thought I should also do some more unique/uncommon fandom, like, maybe, Space:1999. She suggested MST3K, to which I responded, "Joel/Crow"?

If you didn't catch it, the nominations are open for the [info]sgdiverse_award awards for any femmeslash, boyslash or 3some+ stories
- EXCEPT McShep
and ONLY crossovers allowed are with SG1.

Go forth and nominate something. Only available until 4/15.

generic, bridge
This is technically a "spoiler image" from an upcoming episode (for those of you who have been 'waiting for broadcast')

BUT!!!

It is JUST Sheppard, and a gun, and nobody else to give anythign away, so I encourage you to look anyway.

THE FACE!!!

(really, it's just the image. no links to anything else about the episode, or any other spoilers. i swear it on my own grave.)

[info]triple7lies and Josh and I all agree that calls for a caption having to do with constipation. My first thought, seeing it, was, "I NEED TO POO."
